Renting construction equipment in The Gambia runs from D4 a day for a single acro jack to D9,900 a day for a concrete mixer supplied with an operator. Scaffolding is D150 per set per day, plywood D24 per sheet per day, and a plate compactor D30 per meter. What you pay on top of that depends on how long you keep the equipment, whether you need delivery, and whether an operator comes with it.
Most people asking this question are trying to work out one thing: can I afford to do this properly instead of improvising? Usually the answer is yes, and by a wider margin than they expect.

Why the mixer looks expensive and isn't
D9,900 a day is the number that stops people. But that rate includes the operator, and the machine puts out 20 cubic meters an hour with a 450-litre mixing capacity. Hand-mixing the same volume takes a crew most of a week, and the mix quality varies batch to batch.
For a single small slab, hand-mixing may still make sense. For anything at house scale or above, the mixer is usually the cheaper route once you count labour days. We ran the numbers properly in a separate post.
What actually changes your bill
- Duration. Daily rates are for short hires. Multi-week jobs are quoted differently, so tell us the real timeline rather than renewing day by day.
- Quantity. Acro jacks at D4 each sound trivial until you need 200 of them. Count what the slab needs before you budget.
- Delivery. We have branches at Yarambamba, Jabang, Lamin Daranka, Sukuta-Nema and Jambanjelly. Collecting from the nearest one costs you nothing.
- Operators and crew. Some equipment comes with an operator, some does not. Ask when you book.
- Materials you keep. Damp proofing membrane and plywood can be bought outright rather than rented if the job needs them permanently.
Budgeting a typical house slab
As a rough shape, a ground-floor slab on a modest family house needs the mixer for a day, a vibrator for the same day, and props and plywood held for two to three weeks while the concrete cures. The props and formwork sitting there are the quiet cost people forget, because they are cheap per day but rented for a long time.

- Some items are sold outright. Damp proofing membrane is D80 per meter or D13,900 for a full box covering 185.62 square meters, and plywood sheets can be purchased as well as rented.
